We’re ready to start helping more women in Colorado connect and adventure together

Backcountry Beauties app launches to connect women in the outdoors

Colorado-based social community brings more than 2,000 women together around activities including backcountry skiing, hiking, rafting, biking, fly fishing, and more

(DENVER, CO) – Backcountry Beauties, an app that helps women connect in the outdoors, launched on iOS and Android. The free app serves as a platform for a growing community of more than 2,000 Colorado women to chat, plan outdoor meetups, and meet new friends.

“The Backcountry Beauties community is a sisterhood focused on empowering and educating women in the outdoors, facilitating safe outdoor excursions, and building deep relationships based on shared interests,” said app creator Ellie Frost, a Denver-based software developer, entrepreneur, and outdoor enthusiast. “After decades of following the boys on their adventures, women around the state are now taking the reins together to create responsible and educational expeditions together.”

Backcountry Beauties began when Frost made a post on social media looking for women to go backcountry skiing with her in December 2023. The post received such an enthusiastic response from women looking for other women to get outdoors with that she decided to build a dedicated app. The community has since hosted more than 100 events and attracted more than 2,000 members in Colorado. At nearly every event, women come alone and leave with new adventure sisters.

Connecting, empowering, educating

“I left Summit county because I was lonely, and now I’m getting ready to move back because all my new friends are there,” said one Denver bound Beauty.
“Last year I was making dangerous decisions in the backcountry due to trauma and PTSD, this year I’m healing with other Beauties and have done more responsible tours this season than ever before,” a woman in the Front Range said.

Women who took full advantage of the free events and virtual learning sessions grew their experience by leaps and bounds this season.

The new app Frost built herself lets women build profiles that highlight their location, favorite outdoor hobbies, skill level and certifications, making connecting with like minded partners for sports like ski touring and climbing easy. For example, members can confirm if they have taken avalanche safety or first aid courses that potential backcountry partners may be seeking.

Users join groups based on their interests and locations, where they can discuss meetups, RSVP to events or create their own, and chat about their experiences. Backcountry Beauties app also includes a learning library that offers information on different backcountry zones, recorded learning sessions and community blog posts. Anyone can post a topic or question.

Looking ahead, Frost is working to partner with brands via the community’s newly formed marketing and advertising department. Additionally, the community will offer varying subscription levels with benefits like access to popular backcountry and outdoor tools/apps, discounts from sponsors, the ability to post about their business or profession to the community, being featured on the YouTube series or podcast, being able to redeem Beauty points towards hut trips and ski vacations, and more.

The community’s first merchandise has been released, with Frost working to launch a women’s outdoor clothing line in parallel with the community. She’ll poll members to find sizing, fit, and feature ideas, aiming to create more options for women who love the outdoors.

Backcountry Beauties aims to help women connect in the outdoors with other women, with the app launch marking a new chapter of connection and communication in the outdoor community. The app is poised to transform the way women engage in outdoor activities, fostering empowerment, education, and camaraderie.
