What to Expect

Day 1 - In the Classroom

Learn the basics of avalanche safety in an engaging, supportive classroom setting with hands-on activities.
Dive into avalanche terrain, snow science, and trip planning. Engage in interactive discussions, work through real-life scenarios, and connect with other women as you explore the foundational skills of safe backcountry travel.

Day 2 - Into the Field

Put your skills to work in the field with real-life scenarios and hands-on practice in avalanche terrain.
Step onto the snow and apply your knowledge as you identify avalanche terrain, evaluate conditions, and make group decisions. Practice using your beacon, probe, and shovel in realistic rescue scenarios, building confidence with every drill.

Day 3 - Putting It All Together

Bring it all together as you plan and execute a backcountry tour, applying what you’ve learned with your group.
Collaborate with fellow participants to navigate real avalanche terrain, assess snowpack stability, and make informed decisions as a team. This day is about using your skills in a dynamic environment, reflecting on your progress, and celebrating your journey.

From pre-course learning to practicing with your gear, a little effort before you arrive will make a big difference in your experience. Here are some essential tips to help you come prepared and feel confident as you step into the backcountry.

Complete the e-learning modules we send you before the course. They’ll help you grasp the basics and maximize your learning experience.

02  Know your Gear

If you’re new to touring gear, practice transitions like putting skins on and off to build confidence before hitting the snow.

03  Dress for Success

Be ready for all conditions—pack layers to handle anything from sunshine to snowstorms. Stay warm, dry, and comfortable.

04  Be Engaged

This course is all about participation. Ask questions, share your insights, and connect with others. Your voice is key to the experience!
