On this splendid day at Berthoud Pass, our mission was to empower women venturing into the backcountry within a welcoming and beginner-friendly environment. The event coincided with the conclusion of a substantial storm series, leaving behind a pristine blanket of snow at the historic site of the old Berthoud Pass Ski area.
Women of all skill levels gathered for a day of collaboration, sharing valuable tips and tricks while mastering the nuances of their gear. Starting the day with a parking lot meet-and-greet, we embarked on two skin hikes up the slope to revel in the freshly fallen powder. Despite the storm’s significant snowfall, the top of the area retained a windblown and semi-bare character. Conditions varied, offering a soft texture with areas featuring feet of snow, interspersed with exposed surfaces.
